Ericsson signed framework agreements July 8 with China Mobile and China Unicom to provide mobile communication equipment and services worth RMB 6.8 billion ($1 billion) and RMB 4.8 billion ($700 million) respectively. Ericsson will expand China Mobile's GSM/GPRS network coverage and capacity in 18 Chinese provinces, at the same time as becoming China Unicom's main supplier for the carrier's GSM network upgrades in 10 provinces. Ericsson will also provide China Unicom with GSM/WCDMA core network and/or wireless access systems in 15 provinces.
