MIIT: Handset Production Up 7.4% In First Five Months

Chinese handset production increased 7.4% year-on-year to reach 242 million units in the first five months of 2008, reports from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). China accounted for approximately 40% of worldwide handset production last year with the manufacture of 548 million phones. There were 592 million handset users in China by the end of May.
